I just want to give a shout regarding the upcoming Reserve Forces Day down under. It is this Sunday (the 1st of July) and is a day where we thank all those who served our country as Reservists. Australian military Reservists have a proud linage dating back to foundations of our great nation. Time and time again our country has faced great peril and on many of those occasions our Reservist has defended this country with heart and soul. Such battle honours include the Battle for Kakoda.
Our reserve forces have evolved from regional militias to the Citizens Military Forces through to the modern day Australian Defence Force Reserves. Over the past several years our Reserve elements have been at the fore front of the war on terror serving as a large contingent with in the regional security of our country by supporting and re-enforcing regular military forces.
Australian Reservists have been deployed overseas many times in different details ranging from medical support to construction programmes through out the SEA/Pac region as well as supporting and partaking in both peacekeeping and combat operations upholding the great spirit of the Australain serviceman and women.
Finally I would like to pass on a great thankyou to all Reservists both past and present for the great work they do in serving our great country.
