Welcome Obie, With regard to Sniper's 'blue job' comment, would that be Air Force or Police? As for the diving habit, yes, you have my 'deepest' sympathy. I get out and paddle in the Red Sea now and then, so appreciate the cost of all the gucci kit on offer. Good to have you here.

'Strewth, that bleedin' camel's gunna follow me around, now, even tho' I really did pay for it! I suppose it's true, eh: ... can run, but can't hide!
Anyway, thanks all for the welcome, and since I was so nicely asked, a potted history:
31yrs RAAF, all over Oz, and S-E Asia/Butterworth when it was big, with active service in Cambodge [UNTAC MCG] and East Timor [INTERFET], and heaps of Blue Beret stuff including two years in Noo Yawk, Noo Yawk, and little forays into the other Congo [Brazzaville] and Western Sahara; then 3yrs in PNG working for Hornibrook, and now "expeditionary logistics" working all over the place: from Burundi, Congo/Zaire [deepest, darkest], Sudan, India, Jordan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Lebanon, and Solomons.
Married, with one, who's also serving his country, albeit as a Navy aircrewman, and of whom Mother and Father are extremely proud, to boot!
As indicated above, favourite activity is deep and wet, wrecks preferred, but have been known to enjoy Jazz and Numismatics, and will bore anyone within earshot about the History of Conflict various, particularly Wellingtonian/Napoleonic and anything to do with UN Peacekeeping.
Ta, now, where's "Dr Monk"?

Thanks all, for the welcome - I've been slack in not accessing the Forum for a while - I'll claim "work", unfortunately, but I'd rather have been able to use the "getting wet" excuse!! Ref Ultra Requete's "watch out for the sharks", I'll be swimming thru' water that's a damn' sight cleaner than what they'll be chasing me thru'!
I'm currently in Kigali, prepping their Inf for a Darfur sojourn, and off to Lagos, Nigeria, tomorrow for same, and then, oh frabjous joy, off to ElFashir for a couple of months until Ban Ki gets enough of his staff to do the MovCon OpsMgt task for UNAMID. And there'll be no diving there, that's for sure, nor Dr Monk!
Cop Yers,
OBie

G'Day all, and for Husar: "OBie" is a typically Australian derivative of my surname: O'Brien. I can claim a footprint on this Earth longer than that of the fictional chap from that time long ago and far away, but alas, fame being what it is, he is often confused for me!!
I'm currently neither swimming, diving, nor breath-holding, but often under sand and water downpours out here in western Darfur, El Fasher to be precise!
Regards,
OBie

Jacob, et al, unfortunately altho' the same surname, I'm not related to the O'Brien Glass mob - I'd like to be, 'coz I reckon the cut of the will would be quite nice, thank you very much! And for those on here of Mexican abode, ie Victoria, I'd like to have a bit of O'Brien Catering's lucre as well - alas, not to be, so I'll settle for my expeditionary logistics travels and "gain wealth through knowledge" of our blighted globe instead - I think Mr Kipling might have said that, not sure.
Cop Yers,
OBie
