About 30 officers, non-commissioned officers, police members and Military police members from 12 countries gathered at the 4th international symposium ?Multinational Military Police Units in International Peace Assistance Operations?, which was solemnly opened today at the Croatian Army Home in Pula. During the symposium, which will last until Thursday, participants will exchange experiences obtained in work of multinational military police units in international peace operations like the ISAF peace mission in Afghanistan, with Croatian army police officers participating.

The symposium was opened by envoy of Croatian Armed Forces Headquarters Commander Josip Lucic, colonel Slaven Zdilar, expressing conviction that this symposium will contribute to the development of more efficient international military organisation which participates in the creation of peace preconditions in the world.

Acting administration chief of Croatian Armed Forces Military Police colonel Vlado Kovacevic pointed out upon the opening how it is Military Police that was the first section of Armed Forces to be sent to Afghanistan in spring 2003.

-Since then until this day, the military police platoon has been exceptionally successful within the multinational company of military police in Kabul at the Head Regional command. At the same time, together with German Military Police and Hungarian Armed Forces, we are co-operating in the Regional command North- Kovacevic said.

Tasks which they perform, like military-police patrol, surveillance, inquests and security for prominent figures visiting the ISAF mission, are adjusted to the international environment, he said. Acting in international environment, with acting in the area of greater risk and danger, is different from the task of those at home and this is why experts, additionally qualified and equipped soldiers need to be sent to the multinational units, said colonel Kovacevic.

Foreign Minister envoy Ivan Starcevic pointed out the nobility of participation in peace missions. He said that the hardest task of any administration is to send soldiers abroad.
