NATO denies killing civilians in E Afghanistan
www.chinaview.cn 2007-11-29 21:06:15

KABUL, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) on Thursday categorically denied killing civilians in Afghanistan's eastern Nuristan province.

"Abdul Jan, a key Taliban commander, plus five of his men, were killed while running from their cave up to the tent," an ISAF spokesman Carlos Branco told newsmen here on Thursday.

Governor of Nuristan province Tamim Nursitani told reporters Wednesday that an air attack by the international troops in Norgram district of Nuristan province on Monday night left around one dozen workers of a local road construction company dead while some sources put the number of casualties as high as 25.

"Evidence strongly points that Taliban insurgents were killed in Norgram and not civilians," the NATO spokesman stressed.

He also added that ISAF and Afghan troops tracked the movement of Abdullah Jan the commander of Taliban in the area on the night of Nov. 26.

"This is the information that we have and we are confident this is reliable information," Branco further said, adding "as soon as we have more information we'll let you know."

There has,and always will be "collateral damage" it is always regretable, but by the same token it is sometimes impossible to differentiate between groups of people. The are no clear lines of battle, and insurgents in this type of conflict infiltrate at will, and, with the absence of a uniformed enemy, identification becomes extremely difficult.

I know it sounds harsh but maybe being dead is better than living under their rule.

As sad as it is these events do happen; all we can do is pay respect and restitution and continue on with the fight.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Taliban killed these people then leaked that NATO forces did it to the press.

The villagers are so afraid of the Taliban they wouldn't even dare tell the world the truth of who killed the the other villagers.
Plus its so easy for some to put all the blame on international forces.

Whenever a Shia shrine (for example) is attacked in Iraq, the US  are always blamed for the attack. The same day The Sunni neighborhoods are attacked by angry mobs. So how come the US (some even blame Israel who isnt even in Iraq.)  is blamed and the Sunnis are punished? because they know very well the US was innocent! They just enjoy blaming the U.S. and Coalition forces for everything!

Sometimes Im just so sick and tired of helping those people! However I dont want to withdraw troops and allow Al Qaida to cry victory!
