George Bush pleads with allies
Big News Network.com     Thursday 20th December, 2007

U.S President George Bush has used his last White House media conference of the year to plead with allies.

While praising countries that are helping in Afghanistan, he asked them not to abandon the war effort.

At the conference, he expressed concern that some of America's allies might be teetering, in favour of leaving the zone.

"My biggest concern is that people say, well we're kind of tired of Afghanistan, therefore we think we're going to leave," he said. "So our objective is to help people meet a mission that they're comfortable with and convince them that this is going to take a while."

The U.S military is worried about mounting Taliban violence in Afghanistan while it is still continuing to fight the war in Iraq.

Also at the conference, President Bush said he was concerned about the current situation in Iraq.

He said that he is dissatisfied with the progress being made by the Iraqi government in its attempts to reconcile the country's inhabitants.

We need to finish our training and reconstruction work then we can go! Anything before that it is just half arsed and makes the sacrifices that our troops made somewhat hollow.

Our training and reconstruction shouldn't last anything longer than the widely discusses 2010 mark as you said Kiwi; however we will need to keep several forces in Iraq to protect our embassy which is a a view that PM Rudd spoke about before the election. A full pull out from our forces now which is what our new government want will see our work there go unfinished.

Franky I can't see what they are trying to do. Iraq will go back to its old ways as soon as we are gone.
