Villagers slaughtered in Guyana
Big News Network.com     Saturday 26th January, 2008

Gunmen in Guyana have killed eleven villagers, including five children.

The assailants burst into five homes and shot residents in the village of Lusignan east of the capital Georgetown.

Police have blamed a gang led by a local crime figure, Rondell Rawlins, who comes from neigbhouring Surinam.

He is held responsible for a string of murders, robberies and kidnappings.

Rawlins has allegedly been responsible for recent attacks in retaliation against police who are holding his pregnant partner in custody.

Police officers have already been shot at by Rawlin's armed gang, who invaded Guyana's police headquarters on Friday.

On Wednesday a soldier was killed and another injured in another attack blamed on the gang.
