Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Saudatu Bungudu has called for special concessions in women enrolment in both the military and Nigeria police each year.

She also calls on various women groups to influence the admission of more women into the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA), to enable them participate more effectively in peacekeeping operations.

The minister who made the call in Abuja while inaugurating an inter-ministerial task force on gender and peacekeeping , said with the increase in the enrolment of women into the military establishments, the nation would be able to boast of more women peacekeepers in the nearest future.

Bugundu while stressing the need for an increase in the number of women peacekeepers said "there is very little systematic action to increase their numbers in order to pave way for their subsequent deployment in peace keeping operations

The Minister who was represented at the ceremony by the Director of Planning Research and Statistics in the ministry, Mr. Irele George urged the members of the task force to make visible progress by interacting and sharing experiences with the United Nations Department of peacekeeping.

She further advised them to study the action plans developed by other countries in order to mainstream women into peacekeeping operations and come up with a good plan of action for the country.
