Museum to honor Civil War doctor

CANTON: The National First Ladies Library will host a reenactment of Dr. Mary Walker at its ''Battles, Bandages and honor'' program at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Walker was the first woman awarded the Medal of Honor. She received it in 1865 for her work during the Civil War.
Her name was removed from the list of those honored in 1917 along with the names of others when the terms used to designate eligibility for the award were reappraised.
Her medal was restored in 1977 thanks to work by her family and a congressional reappraisal of her achievements.
The donation to attend the event is $15.
Reservations are required. Call 330-452-0876, ext. 301.
