Then along comes SGT Hester...

Someone wrote: “No woman has won the silver star since WW2, None in Korea, None
in Vietnam, Then along comes SGT Hester. Don't mess with a woman that is
carrying a M4 with a M203 under it.”

The writer is correct... it's been three wars since a woman has 'won' the SS.
But we all know the reason why it's taken so long for a woman to earn a medal
for Valor... the reason is because we men don't allow women to serve in combat.
And we don't allow women to serve in combat because we are afraid females just
might serve as valorous as males.

During WW2 we whites would not allow a single African American soldier serving
in our segregated military to receive the Medal of Honor because we refused to
believe that a black man could be as heroic as a white man... so even when a
black man performed the exact same act of self-sacrifice as a white soldier we
gave the white soldier the MOH but the black got the DSC. It took 53 years for
the first black WW2 soldier to get his long-deserved MOH.

And still, after over 200 years we won't allow females to serve on the front
line because, just like during WW2, we males cannot accept that a person we feel
isn't equal to us could perform as well, if not better, than we can.

Women should be allowed to serve on the front lines.

Perhaps just as it took many, many years for us whites to acknowledge that we
are not biologically superior to other races, we may one day acknowledge that
our women aren't biologically inferior to men.

I do agree with that.  I never had a problem with combat women!

However most men keep saying that women just dont have the phsyical abilities to pass all combat ops and training.

To the Army:
Let them women prove what they can do,
"accept" or "forbid" ONLY after that, not before.

I believe in restrictions of the women must not be planning a family. and pass the same level of a man. If she can't comply then no she does not serve.

Here?s an extract from an Interview on an American TV show, with reporter Chris matthews an interview with Governor of Minnesota Jesse Ventura, former wrestler and ex U.S. Navy Seal.  I found it interesting. smoke

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Governor, my question for you is what is your stance on women in the military?

VENTURA; My stance on women in the military is the same as my stance on gays in the military. They should be allowed. Because it?s everybody?s country. Everybody has the right to serve their country, whether you?re man, woman, gay, hetero, whatever it is. You have the right to serve your country.

MATTHEWS: What about combat role, you care about that right ?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: (UNINTELLIGIBLE)

MATTHEWS: I?m sorry. What do you think about women. Are you for it?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes. I?m for it.

MATTHEWS: Are you for it? What about combat, with rifles shooting on alongside the other guys?

VENTURA: Again as I said off air, the problem arises, if they can qualify. They have to not lower the standards. You know, we?re not going to be politically correct here or whatever, you know, Title IX, whatever you want to call it, in the military.

MATTHEWS: But off-air, you were a little different. You said that men had to get used to it, but the straight guys had to get used to the gay guys too.

VENTURA: I?m getting to that.

MATTHEWS: It?s a culture issue there.

VENTURE: Once they qualify, if they can qualify and can pass all the standards that are required. Then the problem is men. Because men have always been brought up and it?s not our fault. It?s the culture that we?ve been lived in. We?ve been brought up to protect women and if that jeopardizes an operation, then I say no, it can?t happen.

MATTHEWS: Give me a scenario where it would.

VENTURA: Well, if you had a platoon with one woman in it, and if the woman, naturally, the men would seek to protect her and not let her carry her end of the log. And that could jeopardize the mission.
So until you break the male mind free that the female has the capability and can get the job done.
