Aye it is a good one. If memory serves me correct it is a torpedo from the HMAS Collins that hit the de-commisioned HMAS Perth.

Perfect shot. Broke the ship's keel and she is already sinking.

On a personal note...I know it is necessary and it is the last great service the ship can perform, but it is always sad to me to see a great ship used for target practice.

Anyone old enough to remember a movie called "Operation Petticoat"? Where they had to mix the red and white primer while on their submarine, turning it pink? That was the USS Balao (sp? the fish). It was down in Key West for a while and the sailors were always bringing guests aboard and chipping spots of paint off so they could prove that it had been their ship in the movie. They were so proud of it. I still remember them. It ended up at target practice as well. So sad.

It is sad to see but it aslo gives our lads the ability to use live fire and see the results of a direct hit instead of a range controller going "target hit, end ex".

Like our Coast Guard? Unless they changed it, the CG is only under the military in time of war. The rest of the time they are Treasury.

Our Customs jus tlook after drug smugglers and the like along our boarders. They also prevent illegal fishing which is a major problem for us. They also handle in coming and out going passangers at our air and sea ports across the country. The Customs crew have some rather nffty toys and powers but do not fall under the portfolio of the Department of Defence in time of war like the USGC does. Our customs also do not carry out rescue operations unless they are the closet responders to an incident at that time.

Interesting to know.

They have our poor Border Patrol handcuffed and the illegals running wild. They are afraid one of the illegals might get hurt.

Remembere even away is cool.
I actually like it when just a few pics are posted at a time, unless they are a series. It gives more of a chance to look and enjoy and comment.

Yeah the Image is huge as some USAF pilot park a rather large plane in the background what.

I love the MWD's; My parents have a German Shepherd and they are wonderful. I was at a parade two years back when a RAAF Sec Pol LAC showed up. He did atour and was wearing his medals, what I found really cool was that he went an bought replica medals and pinned them on his side kick who was with him every step of the way. On his AF blue cover they looked really cool.

MWDs' are truley one of the unsung heroes of the services.

My husband said they had a bull dog mascot when he was in the service. It wore sargent stripes and if you did anything to the dog they would get you for striking a superior. The dog got busted down a rate once, I think he said.

In light of the resurfacing of the whole Brew Ha Ha regarding the Iranians and trying to steal our Naval vessals; I thought I should add some images of our boarding parties at work. They are a combination of Military and Customs personnel.

The first is a crew from the HMAS Manoora
