Chris, we have had a bloody Labour Government since 1995. If your labour Party is anything like ours, they'll expect the Services to do more, with less. Tony B liar has engaged our Services in three wars, at the same time cutting back on cash resources and new technology. Bloody Socialists!!

It isn't the only massive step back it's going to take. We are going to be back with an ACTU government like the Hawke years. John Howard is the best Prime Minister we have ever had. Such courageous decisions . Look at the firearms buy back scheme. Hundreds of thousands of firearms got taken out of circulation. Lowest unemployment in Australia's history and highest wages. This all achieved after paying back 90 billion debt that Labor ran up before they were elected. Now Australia has a water crysis. The Conservative Prime Minister has stated publicly that he will have to turn off the tap to 50000 farmers in the Murray Valley. These 50000 , all their families and all the business people who support them are Conservative voters.
John Howard cannot make it rain. But somehow the people think that Kevin Rudd can. Get ready for a labor government. The people have lost their memories.

No woman has ever survived the front bench in a Labor government. Think back to all the disasters like Ross Kelly, Cheryl Kernot, Carmen Lawerance to mention a few

I knew it! Politicians are crazy all over. Glad to know we aren't the only ones stuck with weasels.
(My apologies to weasels everywhere for the insult)

Yes, sounds right, but with the Republicans in office you are out of work and starving to death, unless you are rich or near rich. It is their answer to poverty. LOL

Yeah. You have a population shortage too, I think. Over here all I know is that when the Democrats are in I'm working and things are good. When Bush came in the company I was working for crashed and it was back to grabbing what part time I could get.
Actually what the trouble is that both parties are starting to be more interested in the extremes of the populous and to hell with the middle class and the middle of the road voter. The nut cases at both ends of the spectrum are running things.

It always seems that everyone can get help except the ones that need it when the govt helps. California used to have welfare with big bucks for each child. They finally quit when they noticed that a lot of women were having a kid a year and making enough money to hire a nanny, buy a Cadillac, and go party till the next one came along. One of the girls I worked with was on welfare, food stamps, and a bunch of other programs. The mother was raising the kid and she was buying sports cars and expensive clothes. We were making pretty good money too. Didn't do any good to report it either. Heck 10K is almost as much as we get a year together for disability. No helpies for us though.
Politicians are a curse but I guess putting up with them beats the other types of govts out there. If ~everyone~ would get off their butts and vote, even if it was for the lesser of two evils, eventually enough of them would get their butts kicked that they would start paying attention to business instead of goofing off.

Yeah, despite the flaws of the polies, we are lucky that we can speak out unlike other countries.
The current new born allowance or "bang for a buck as I call it"does have merit. Their are people who out their need that 4k and to another six to that would help them so much, the problem is and this about 45% of the welfare reciepents, spend the money on themselves like you said elfie, this makes me want to say the programme needs to be done away with.
There have been many cases where young mothers [under 21] are having multiple children just so they can cash in of the government. Then they expect the government to feed them, school them and support them when the decide they don't want to work. It really is shame and is slap in the face for hard working honest mothers out there.
There have been cases where these young mothers have had the children purely to gain an income to support their drug habbit, I don't think I need to explain how wrong that is.
This country is starting to depend on the government way to much, they expect the government to look after them, it's like they think the government owes them. These people need to be taken and shown how cold the real world is.
Elfie, in the US it still is if you don't have a job you don't get paid?
To really sit down and see what the ALP have install for this country is really scary.

They should put a sensible top on the amount you can get for kids. $500 a month might be hard to get by getting things for one kid but when it gets to$1500 or more for multiples, they are bring home as much as some middle class families, the kids are wearing designer jeans, and momma has a new house.
You can get unemployment for a while, but if there are no jobs, there are no jobs. I was not picky. I can sling hash, build prototype electronics, do fiber optics, Run the instrument room in a hospital, or groom race horses, just to name a few. I will work if I can find a way. Now I can't unless I ever find a way to make a PC pay off, but with my skills, that is not a biggie on the horizon. It does have it's up side...I can come give you guys a hard time at weird hours and work on my art when the mood and inspiration strike. I don't mind not working so much as being broke. LOL

I know what you mean. We have a long string of nutty programs. Btw, Clinton might have been someone you wouldn't trust your wives and daughters around, but he could run a govt. We had gotten out of the deficit for the first time that I can remember and were 3 trillion dollars to the good, Bush blew it even without the war. I paid more taxes after his tax cuts than I ever did before. Read the fine print and the cuts are for the corps and the rich and upper middle class. Some of the reporters are calling it the war on the middle class and they aren't far wrong. At least one major US city just about literally chased out the middle class with their policies. There were no middle management jobs, they had all been exported, just to mention one of their plans that backfired on them.
