The RAN has ordered 11 Super Seasprite helicopters for operation on Anzac class frigates.
The Australian SH-2G(A) is fitted with the Litton Integrated Tactical Avionics System (ITAS), digital automatic flight control system and Penguin missile.
The Super Seasprites will operate on Anzac class frigates, mainly in the primary operational role of surface warfare. The aircraft is equipped with forward looking infra-red (FLIR), electronic surveillance and protection equipment, multi-mode radar, a cabin-mounted machine gun and the Kongsberg Penguin anti-ship missile.
The SH-2G has a crew of two. It can also be flown by a single pilot and SENSO, due to a flexible integrated tactical avionics system (ITAS) designed by Kaman and Litton Guidance & Controls.
ITAS is driven by dual mission data processors and uses two 1553B databuses to integrate sensors, weapons, communications and navigation equipment.
Penguin missile Purpose: helicopter-launched anti-ship missile. Power: Solid propellant rocket motor and solid propellant booster Length: 3.06 meters Launch weight: 385 kilograms Range: 25 nautical miles/35 km Speed: 1.2 mach max Guidance: Inertial and infrared terminal Warhead: 120.5 kg semi armor piercing
The Seasprite will support underwater warfare operations by acting as a weapons carrier for other aircraft and ships appropriately equipped to locate and track submarines.
The Seasprite is able to detect submarines on or near the surface using its FLIR, radar and ESM, but is not equipped with acoustic detection equipment.
The helicopter can carry a variety of air-deliverable anti-submarine weapons including lightweight torpedoes and depth charges.
As with all RAN helicopters, the Seasprite is equipped to conduct a wide range of 'utility' operations such as personnel and cargo transport, search and rescue, and external load-lifting.
The Seasprite is capable of rapidly inserting a five-man boarding party on to ships in support of embargo operations, using 'fast roping' techniques.
SH-2G(A) Super Seasprite Length: 16.0 metres Height: 4.6 metres Width: 3.53 metres Weight: 6,225 kg Speed: 250 kph Range: 830 km Crew: 2 (pilot, tactical officer) Engines: two GE T-700 turboshaft Weapons: two Kongsberg Penguin anti-ship missiles; two Mk46 torpedoes; one 7.62 machine gun

Oh yes. The chopper. It does look good and useful.
If you get one, check it out for stray shorts first before takeoff. At the rate those guys are going, there may be gear adrift.

Thx guys. from what i no 9 of the Australian seasprites are in service 1 other in storage the other being tested in america?
i think that might be true it does say on that site u gave "The Australian Navy ordered 11 aircraft for Anzac Class frigates in 1997. Deliveries began in 2001 and 10 have been delivered. "
why would the other 1 be in storage?
