Pakistan and Afghanistan blamed for providing terror
According to the FBI, the tribal areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan are feeding the rest of the world with terrorists.
The head of the FBI, Richard Mueller, has said another threat could come from militants recruited on US soil.
Speaking to the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, he said the tribal areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan pose the greatest threat, but there was also growing concern about people around the world who support al-Qaeda.
He said the US should be concerned about other possible threats, including from people who don't need a visa to enter the United States.
He said the terror attacks in Mumbai had raised issues about whether a similar attack could happen in the US.
He also pointed to what he called "homegrown terrorists," and said he was concerned about terrorists being recruited on American soil from individuals who had come from Islamist countries which had been engulfed in civil conflict.
Mueller said men from other communities in the United States had been recruited to fight in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Yemen.
He said the FBI would attempt to counter terrorist thought through increased contact with, and better understanding of Muslim communities in the United States
